“The Sad Girl Phenomenon or Female Pain As Taste” is a research project exploring how narratives of female suffering are framed, perceived, and reproduced in art, media, and online culture. The project interrogates which expressions of pain are amplified, aestheticized or erased, and asks: Who gets to be sad, and who is excluded?
